Failed payments

When Stripe charges fail, how retries work, and what to do on dFlow Cloud.

A failed payment means Stripe could not complete a charge for an open invoice while automatic collection is enabled. The subscription may move to past_due until the invoice is paid or Stripe cancels it.

What Stripe does

Stripe retries failed charges with Smart Retry (about 14 attempts over about 30 days; dates are on the invoice). The invoice stays open. dFlow does not cancel the subscription from a failed attempt, and wallet balance does not auto-pay open invoices.

If every retry fails, Stripe cancels the subscription. For the organisation usage subscription, dFlow then attaches a new free plan. Worker Node subscriptions follow the same Stripe cancel; you resubscribe if you still need that capacity.

Access stays at the current plan until Stripe cancel. Update the card before retries run out.

What you should do

  1. Open app.dflow.sh → Profile → Cards and update the default card or add a new payment method (Payment methods).
  2. Open Profile → Billing and check Invoices for the open invoice and pay it from the row.
  3. Confirm Organisation admins are notified (billing contact email).

Prevention

  • Replace expiring cards early.
  • Align finance contacts with Invites and team members under Security and Team Management in the sidebar.
  • Read Usage and billing behavior so proration spikes are expected.
